: Random Caffeine

02 Random Caffeine 02, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.
May 2010

And now, Random Caffeine, which is really just my effort to post more regularly :) Not much needed to explain the pics other than me just seeing some color, light & form and lovin' it! Mixing it up a bit by playing with the focus, trying the blur factor.

As I've been working, I've been really digging Two Door Cinema Club's new music "Tourist History" (link courtesy of Grooveshark). Take a listen, my personal favorites are "Something Good Can Work", "Do You Want It All", "I Can Talk". Fun stuff, so have a couple Distortion's (or your drink of choice), crank it up and get down with the get down. Go ahead, nobody's lookin',  and even if they are, they're just jealous. Own it!

Have a wonderful weekend party people, soak up the sun, splash around in the rain, whatever the weather, just have a blast & enjoy the day!

Here, there, somewhere

I think this will be the new title of my random shots, because some of the personal pics & little things I see and shoot help give me that little extra boost, that bit o' creative caffeine as it were.

So with that, I give you my first official Random Caffeine, Bit O' Creative Caffeine (bitocc, sounds a lot like a chicken, going to stop there...), Creative Caffeine... eh, name's still in flux, I'll keep working on that.

Aloooooha & may the mai tai's flow :D

: Drive

California

I've been driving a lot lately and right after all the rains, it is particularly beautiful in California. All the hills are green, there are some amazing flowers of all shapes & colors along the road & fields, wonderful oak trees that are either blossoming or are dead and just look gnarled and beautiful.

These are just a couple from my recent driving. These 3 happen to actually involve me stopping versus my normal Freeway Photography where I just shoot going 70+ on the freeway. The last one I was a passenger and snapped it as we drove 60 :)

I hope everyone has a beautiful Friday and a wonderful Easter weekend. Happy Easter!

: Exploring Seattle

Seattle 048
Seattle 048, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

Things have been a little bonkers, but I'm back on the blog duty, apologies for the delay.

This is from my 7 hour layover in Seattle, first trip there, carried my backpack which had my laptop, headphones and a grip o' gear all around Seattle. Freakin' love Seattle, amazing city. Rained a little & realized my wearing glasses wasn't so great, unless I some of those wipers on my glasses, then it would rule. But I loved it and totally worth a 7 hour layover. Seattle, mahalo! I'll be back, fo sho!!

: IM - beginnings

IM 2009 013, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

So back on the October 22nd, I went out for a little personal project shoot. I decided it was time to turn the camera on me for no other reason than to just document me. I want this to be a personal project, and do pictures for everything that makes me who I am, trying to be a bit reflective and honest. Most all of you have seen the goofball side, and there are still a few pictures in there, but this is more about experimenting with the camera, trying different things and trying to convey who I am (or IM) through self portraits.

I'm still working on what it will look like when it's done, how I exactly want to do it, but I figure a road trip is as good as any time to start. So, here it is. A few of my dad in there, because he of course is part of who IM and more will come into play around Christmas when I get to see my family again! Stoked!

Here it is, IM - beginnings. a work in progress. just like me.

: Road Trip

RoadTrip2009 012, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

This is the first road trip I've done with my dad that I can remember. I might have done one way back in the day, but this was absolutely one to remember. Trying to set out to Kansas to see a family farm that I've always heard of, but never seen. In late October... yeah, the Parris timing as usual, was phenomenal!

WY hit with snow storms closed down the I70 East from Rawlins onward. So we pulled out my G1, and did a quick reroute, head south on the 789, hit CO and the I80 and head east - hizaaa! Except come about midnight when we finally get outside of Denver, we see signs saying the 80's closed. we still keep pushing... didn't work. We ended up staying the night in the Wal Mart parking lot. To say it was cold is like saying the sun is a little on the bright side.

Epic. Amazing. a blast! Thanks dad, I had an awesome time and am looking forward to the spring and finally getting to Kansas :D

: Road Trip & IM preview

road trip 007, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

The great road trip that was great and on the road, but not all the way done. The snow beat us, put up a great white wall of wind & flakes covering the I-80 East at Rawlins & then nailed us again on the I-70 East just past Denver. But the roundtrip of 1,870 miles was amazing. Great stories from my dad, a lot of fun, time with my dad, a great time to be out and see the country and did I mention, time with my dad!

It also allowed me some time to work on my new project, the "IM" series, which started out originally as "I aM". Most people who know me, know me as the former straw chewing, hyper, ADD, laughing all the time and having fun type guy. Which is all still true, although not so much the straws lately. So I thought I would turn the camera on me and try some experiments to show a bit more of who IM. Still working out the details and what it will look like exactly, but a preview of the rough is after the jump...

: Personal project: surf

Surf 01, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

Huntington Beach

Personal projects are huge and I think they help recharge the creative battery - at least for me. I was thankful that I got to go down to HB for a side project to the Surfboards in the Sand event thrown by Transworld Surf & Rip Curl. They wanted to get as many surfboards in the sand as possible and get a picture of it. It was pretty great to see all the people down there and just the sheer volume of rad surfboards!

I love art! Graffiti (even though I don't condone the act, but still, the huge pieces with all the color, design & creativity - amazing), wood carving, paint, design - everything! And the entire surf culture / community is an amazing one to me, it's constantly growing and innovating, and the designs of the clothes & surfboards always amaze me. I must qualify this with I haven't surfed ever but I plan to learn once we get back to Hawaii, but I love the whole culture!

There were so many great surfboards out there to look at & take pictures of, one painted to look like an old school dog fighting plane (awesome), classic wood boards, some graffiti style patches - all amazing. So here are just a few of my favorite from the day, processed slightly differently with the matting.

much aloha to all, have a wonderful week!

Much aloha to all!

: Art

I was out shooting a project today and came across this amazing piece of art. I absolutely love art of all kinds and I love the art of graffiti. Not the simple tagging as much, although love the writing is impressive, but the full on art of graffiti, the lines, the colors, the characters, all amazing!

There's an outside mall called The Lab or as they say, the anti-mall, but this piece was on the front wall by one of my favorite stores (Urban Outfitters, so much fun camera/knick knack stuff, click the link to check it out!). If you're near The Lab, check it out, amazing work and I didn't do it justice.

Much love to the artists who did this, amazing work!!

Aloha!

: The joys of unemployment!

Random - 03, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

As some of you might know, I'm technically what we call - "unemployed". My side gig, which happens to be a 40+ hours a week side gig, is as an accountant. It's what I went to school for, labored and studied a crazy amount of hours for, and spent numerous month ends / quarter ends & year ends working overtime on. For the last 4 years, I've been a consultant and it's been great!

Only downside is that with this whole economic downturn / recession going on, consultants are usually the first to go, which is completely understandable. But here's the thing... i'm kinda diggin it!

We all know about the downside of it, money for mortgages, bills, blah blah... but the upside is huge!

Here are my joys of unemployment:

1) I get to spend more time with my family!
2) Everyday is Saturday
3) I wear whatever I want (huge when I've been in the business world for almost 10 years)
...interlude while I read an Elmo book to Charlie - love it!...
4) Reading books to Charlie whenever she asks ;)
5) I get to spend time with my family!!
6) I don't have to commute anywhere I don't want to
7) Saving on gas money
8) I can work on personal projects & get caught up (as long as it doesn't interfere with family time :D)
9) More time to day dream about the future, but not at the expense of enjoying the day
10) I get to spend time with my family!!!

I haven't had as much time to do personal projects or get as caught up as I'd like, but it hasn't been because of my 40 hr side job as an accountant, it's been because I've been with my family & friends. So while I'm not officially working, i'm loving my little mini vacation. Now if I could keep this going and figure out how to make money at it... i'll add that to my list of day dreaming :)

For now, some personal projects I shot when we went up to the Central Coast for Owen & Jenny's engagement session, enjoy!

The central coast has a ton of Oak trees, all beautiful!

On the way home, we decided to take a detour and see what we could see. It was awesome, Jess drove, I shot and would occasionally say "oooh, here" and we'd pull over and shoot. Until our battery died in the middle of no where. With no reception. Thankfully, a nice couple pulled over and helped us jump the car. And now we have a Duracell battery jumper in the car, just in case...

And now, one of the most awesome & creepiest trees i've ever seen in real life...

: Mother's Day 2009 & Random

scXFQm, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

Aloha party people! I wanted to give you some information on a Mother's Day shoot I'm planning for next week, 04/18 (Saturday).

Here's the plan -
: 1 hour session
: park setting so kids (big & small) can play around, have fun and enjoy outside
: shoot amazing pictures
: delivery of a disc with your pictures on it in two weeks
: feel free to give and / or receive awesome family pics for Mother's Day

The cost for this fun is $200, a 20% discount! It will be a wonderful day, currently it is set to be 72 degrees and partly cloudy with 100% chance of fun! Space is limited to five, although depending on the schedule, I might add a spot or two. Let's plan on starting at 10am @ Tri City park and boogie oogie oogie till we just can't boogie no more.

If you're interested, please email me will::at::parris-studios::dot::com. Since it's first come, first serve, send a listing of times desired so we can schedule accordingly.

I wanted to post a few pics though too... The one above is of Kyle & the guys from this last weekend - they were & are amazing! Boo to the Ya!

Same wedding, although here my Brother In Law is being attacked by a piece of 70's swimmer wall art. Totally unprovoked! Grant is tough though, swimmer never stood a chance, the hip check was bruuuutal :)

BOQHB8

And of course - Soundwave Mighty Mugg! There might be a Boba Fett & Darth Vader Mighty Mugg around my office too... I won't lie - they rock! They're "made from 100% recycled awesome", true story, says so on the box.

: Charlie & friends...

Disneyland ii - 5, originally uploaded by Parris Studios:.

Well, really it's Charlie, Amy, a branch & a tree... but all those are Charlie's friends :)

And sad news from the gaming community - EGM will no longer be published after their January issue... I've subscribed to this magazine for years. Great magazine and I'm sad to see it go... Now begins the search for another gaming magazine that covers all platforms, is funny and in line with my gaming taste. Yeah, no problem...

I have more family pics from Christmas time to come, we had almost our entire family here (missed you Aud!!) - which was awesome! More of those to come, but for now...

Branch, meet the world

Parris Studios: Ramblings

Another day, another post... I've been thinking I need to spruce up the blog, get the ideas out of my head and into the bits and bytes for a logo, which means, more Photoshop knowledge. I can honestly admit, I don't know how to use, or have I used Photoshop on the pics. I know there are a ton of great action sets out there like Totally Rad Actions by the Boutwells and Kubota Actions, but I feel like I'm such a rook at Photoshop, that it doesn't warrant me buying them yet... Although I do have a sweet idea for my logo on the pics, but I just need to get going on it and do the follow through.

But for now, I must ramble about the beach. When we were down there for the shoot, it was beautiful, minus the chill, but still. Great clouds, amazing color... sand blowing everywhere, but still, all worth it. So here are a few more shots from this last weekend at the beach. We really are so blessed to be in such a beautiful area...

Have a wonderful night all, I'm going to bed early tonight... maybe... Chuck had her last RSV shot today and turns out she just had a 6 hour nap. Might not bode well for me sleeping - D'OH! Anyways... ALOHA!!

I just liked the sign...

Pretty far back on the pier

And this is just beautiful color, right after the sun set, on the pier walking to eat at Ruby's. As close to a Maui sunset as I've seen ;) I need to post some more on the ol' Maui trip...

Random shot's

So I've finished Alissa & Eric's pictures, and I must say, those two photograph so well!! I'll put some more up here as soon as I send them off (which should be tomorrow), but until then, time for some random shot's. I'll be putting these up occasionally, these are just shots that I thought looked interesting or was just playing around and thought it would be fun to take a picture of it. Let me know what you think!

This was taken at the park where I shot Alissa & Eric's engagement shot. I added a little cross processing on it, just a fun affect on the bark and trees.

Wahoo's, one of my favorite places to eat!! Amazing food, they have Dr. Pepper, and they give you FREE STICKERS!! How can you not love it? If you've never had the pleasure of going there, they have stickers EVERYWHERE and it's just a fun atmosphere. The picture is of my phone and my DP, you'll notice I've branded my phone as a Wahoo's phone. While it's not in the picture, my wallet is also branded. Such good food, Maui bowl... so good!

Mmmm, so good!! Honestly, find a Cost Plus, Target or Starbucks (I know, what is this Starbucks you speak of?) and try a Clementine or a Pomegranate, Clementine is our personal favorite.

A big bottle of our favorite...

Just a fun shot of Darth...

I hope that you all are having a wonderful day and I can't wait for you to see Alissa & Eric's pictures!! So until next time, aloha & God bless!
